Job Description

Allstates WorldCargo is seeking a Licensed Customs Broker to join our Customs Brokerage team. The Licensed Customs Broker is responsible for managing customs clearance activities for import shipments entering the United States. This role ensures compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations and other government agency requirements while supporting customers, internal operations teams, and business partners throughout the import process.

The successful candidate will oversee customs entry preparation and transmission, tariff classification, duty calculation, regulatory compliance, and cargo release activities. This position requires strong knowledge of U.S. import regulations, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Review import documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare, review, and transmit customs entries through ACE and company brokerage systems.
  • Coordinate cargo release activities and ensure timely filing of entry summaries and post-entry documentation.
  • Classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS).
  • Determine applicable duties, taxes, fees, and other import requirements.
  • Review country of origin, valuation, and admissibility information to ensure compliance with customs regulations.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Partner Government Agencies including FDA, USDA, EPA, FCC, DOT, and others as required.
  • Respond to customs inquiries, Requests for Information (RFIs), Notices of Action, examinations, and other government communications.
  • Maintain customs records in accordance with regulatory recordkeeping requirements.
  • Identify and address potential compliance issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.
  • Provide customers with guidance regarding import documentation requirements, customs procedures, and regulatory changes.
  • Monitor shipments throughout the clearance process and proactively resolve delays or exceptions.
  • Work closely with freight forwarding, transportation, warehousing, and finance teams to support customer needs.
  • Stay informed on changes to customs regulations, trade programs, tariffs, and industry best practices.
  • Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Active U.S. Customs Broker License issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and maintained in good standing.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTSUS classification, valuation, country of origin requirements, and ACE entry processing.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and apply them in day-to-day operational environments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and customs brokerage software.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of customs brokerage experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with Partner Government Agency filings preferred.
  • Knowledge of duty drawback, Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), bonded warehouses, duty deferral programs, and CTPAT preferred.
